Reminder: You must take the responsibility of being vigilant by always reconfirming the GF status of a menu item and addressing cross-contamination issues each and every time.
Chili's has a GF menu that comes as a PDF. Go to www.chilis.com,
then "Menu" then "Download Allergen Information", then "Wheat and Gluten Allergen Information." Chili's
updates this monthly, so they recommend that you print a new one every month.
The
following was received June 6, 2006 by email,
which might help explain their policy and practices:
"Based on the most current ingredient statements available from our food suppliers
and their stated absence of wheat, rye, oats and barley within these items,
our corporate dietitian has compiled the list below (not included here) of
suggested menu options at Chili’s for individuals who are allergic to
wheat and/or are gluten intolerant. We hope that you will find this list helpful
during your next visit to our restaurant. Because this list expires on a MONTHLY basis, please be sure to contact us for an updated version.
On your next visit to Chili’s, please speak with the manager about
your dietary restrictions to ensure that your meal is carefully prepared
with your needs in mind. However, please be aware that during normal kitchen
operations involving shared cooking and preparation areas, including common
fry oil, there is a possibility that food items will come into contact with
wheat and/or gluten. In addition, due to the commingling of food items within
our fryers, we recommend that individuals with dietary allergies avoid all
fried food menu offerings.
Should you have any additional concerns or inquiries
regarding
our menu items, please do not hesitate to ask. We hope that you are able
to choose a meal to
your liking and look forward to serving you soon."

"I am writing this email because I went to Chili's last night and had their chips and salsa. It is not on the Gluten Free menu but non of their Appetizers are so I didn't know. Usually you would figure the chips and salsa would be fine and I have seen a lot of questions on the Internet wondering if they were ok but no real answer. So I tried it out. I just had a Gluten free Salad and some chips and salsa. After I ate it, I got sick as a dog. I am not sensitive to items if they are just fried in the same oil as something with gluten, so I can truly say that these DO contain Gluten. I threw up about 15 times and was hurdled over on the floor my stomach hurt so bad for about 4 hours. I thought it was important to mention this because so many people have asked about it. I wouldn't want anyone experiencing what I experienced last night. This is how my body reacts to wheat and only wheat and since I only ate a salad with gluten free dressing I can confirm that it WAS the chips and salsa. I also found out that with some of their tortillas it is half corn and half wheat flour. So just beware."

"I just wanted to tell everyone that we took our silly to Chili's for
dinner two nites ago and had a GREAT experience!!! She got the honey
bbq ribs,. loaded mashed potatoes and corn on the cob! She loved it
all! (and so did this mommy who usually can't trust anyone and brings
food for Rachel)
You can view their gluten free items on their website and they also had
a copy at the restaurant. Menu did state that it was valid only thru
end of May (need to recheck for updated menu) and we also had the
server make the kitchen staff aware of
our special needs! Two days later and she is doing well, even brought
leftover ribs for school lunch yesterday! (Messy but oh so good!)"
