This was our annual picnic/barbecue meeting. Both the San Diego ROCK and CSA groups participated. Between 30 - 40 people attended, with several newly diagnosed persons.

Most of the time was spent eating the delicious GF food and chatting (see photos below). Several of the recipes will be included in the next newsletter. We were even treated to s'mores (with homemade GF graham crackers), thanks to Carol Salvati.

A brief meeting concluded the gathering with several people making announcements:

• There was a discussion of the Digestive Disease Week conference where several of our members volunteered. All agreed it was a very interesting thing to do - touring the other booths, talking to people at the booth from all over the world, and getting to see some of the "VIPs" in the celiac world up-close and casual.
  
  
• There were many freebies for the taking - sample Living Without magazines, packaged cookies from Shabtai Gourmet, baking mixes from Cravings Place, and several varieties of Chebbes mixes. Thank you, Becky from the ROCK group for bringing all that food to share.
  
  
• Barbara Droutman found Paskesz Ready-to-Eat Chow Mein Noodles at Albertson's. They say "gluten free" on the package. She likes to use them in salads, on soups, and Asian dishes. She also recommended a new energy bar sold at Costo made by Mrs. Mays called Trio Natural Bars.
  
  
• Barbara Droutman's husband proposed a fundraiser idea for the Warren Celiac Center. It would consist of a "gold party", where people could bring in any gold pieces they wanted to, he would weigh it and purchase it, and then give some of his profits to the Warren Center. The board will discuss this proposal at the next board meeting.
  
  
• Bill Foreman, our treasurer, announced we now have 140 members.
  
  
• Jan announced our next meeting will be September 13 in our usual room in the Rady Children's Hospital complex. Part of the program that day will be watching a DVD of a dietician giving advice on the GF diet.
  
  Thank you, Jan, for once again providing this perfect venue for the picnic, as well as your barbecue and all the condiments! Thank you also to Russ and Terry for handling the barbecueing, and Kimberly, Helen, and Bill for the set-up. Truely a group effort with everyone bringing the declicious food as well.
