A note from Michele Vargas about the Celiacs Laugh Dining Out group, 8/06:

"When I was diagnosed with CD 9 months ago, my entire way of life changed, especially where dining out was concerned. I soon realized that one of my favorite activities could no longer be taken for granted. It had become a stressful event, starting with the choice of a restaurant, and progressing to an 'interrogation' of managers, servers and chefs. Of course, one positive aspect of this past year has been my membership in CSA.

When Kim Duvall announced the idea of celiacs dining out together, I was IN! So far, we've enjoyed delicious GF meals at two restaurants; Outback Steakhouse in Poway, and Ki's in Cardiff. Kim has done much of the 'groundwork' for us by speaking to restaurant personnel far ahead of time. Although all of us accept some risk when eating out, Kim's communication with the staff can actually help educate all those involved in the preparation of our food. For me, it's also been enjoyable to dine out with a group of very nice people who live and/or understand GF. . . "

Review of "Dining-in" in September, 2006

"Roxie and Terry Johnson were our hosts for a wonderful evening of wining and dining at their goreous home in La Jolla. While gazing at the beautiful sunset, palm trees, and the ocean, we were treated to appetizers, delicious quiche, yummy pineapple-carrot cupcakes, cookies, and coffee. All, of course, were gluten-free, and prepared by Chef Marilyn Kovach, personal chef service. Chef Marilyn can be reached at 760-753-7343 or chefmarilyn1@netscape.net. Thanks to our hosts for opening their home to our group."
