Only some of the Original Pancake House restaurants are now serving gluten free pancakes and waffles. So far, the only ones known in San Diego County that are serving them are in Poway and Temecula. Please Contact Us if you know of another that is serving them in San Diego.

"We have asked each franchisee to consider offering gluten free
pancakes, but we are not yet in possession of feedback as to who has
tried and/or will continue with the item. Once they are making the
basic buttermilk style cake it is usual for them to serve the related
cakes with additions such as coconut, pecan, blueberry, bacon, etc.
We are not requiring they serve them in part because we cannot require
or enforce the use of separate grills, spats, towels etc. for those
sufferers who require or expect complete certainty as to no cross
contamination. We have franchisees who have lost family members to
celiac disease, and hope that our attempt to provide GF options
without separate grills, etc. will be of benefit to some sufferers.
I hope that you will ask your local OPH, by call or visit, if
they are offering GF cakes, and prompt them to try if they a re not
doing so."
"We went to the Original Pancake House in Poway today (5/18/08) and my son (age 15) absolutely loved the GF pancakes and waffles! Yes, he ordered both!! You can order most of the pancake varieties as well, however not the chocolate or pumpkin filled. It was a great day for him." Karen Jackson, 5/08
"By the way, the Poway Original Pancake House is now serving GF pancakes. Unfortunately, they are not the best. My daughter tried them a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed." Jeff Carpenter to SD ROCK group, 5/08.
The following comment is from a poster in San Jose, but some of the information may be helpful here as well.
"We enjoyed g-f blueberry pancakes (with blueberry compote and whipped
cream) at the Almaden Road, San Jose location on Sunday. It felt great
eating out with my family on a Sunday morning! I also talked with the owner
about other breakfast items celiacs could order.
She said that they could also cook eggs on a clean grill; they could
take the plain sausage (before they add their seasonings which
contain flour) straight from the package and cook it on a clean grill
with some salt and pepper; and could also cook plain potatoes (before
they add their seasonings which contain flour) on a clean grill with
salt and pepper.
Since they make their own syrup in-house, she has
called and left a message with the manufacturer of the flavoring they
use for their syrup and will let me know if it contains any gluten.
If nothing else, if you order plain g-f pancakes, you can always
bring your own syrup. If you like whipped cream on pancakes, be sure
to ask for it because it usually does not come on their pancakes." Poster to Listsev, 7/08
